HOW MUCH SUNSCREEN SHOULD YOU APPLY?
Sunscreen is a crucial part of any skincare routine, as it helps protect your skin from the harmful effects of the sun. However, it's not just the type of sunscreen you use that matters - the amount you apply is equally important.
Here's how much sunscreen you should use for your face and body:
How much for Face?
The TGA recommended amount of sunscreen for your face is 1/4 teaspoon or 1.25 ml. This is enough to cover your entire face evenly. However, if you also want to protect your neck and ears, you should apply a total of 1/2 teaspoon or 2.5 ml of sunscreen. This will ensure that these areas are adequately protected from the sun's harmful rays.
How much for Body?
The amount of sunscreen you need for your body depends on its size. The general rule of thumb is to use about 2mg of sunscreen per square centimeter of skin. This means that for your limbs, which include your arms and legs, you should use about 10ml or two teaspoons of body sunscreen. For your entire body, including your torso, back, and legs, you should use at least 40ml or eight teaspoons of sunscreen.
How often should you reapply?
Irrespective of your water resistant rating, it's actually important to remember to reapply sunscreen every two hours or immediately after swimming or sweating, as well as using a broad-spectrum sunscreen.
